Introducing Everyday Grace, a new monthly column in The 228 Times
In the middle of busy days, packed schedules, and everything life asks of us, it’s easy to overlook the small moments that bring meaning and balance. That’s the idea behind Everyday Grace—a new monthly column that takes a step back to reflect on life as it’s really lived here in our community. Through personal experiences, simple routines, and local discoveries, Everyday Grace is a reminder that sometimes the most meaningful moments are the ones happening quietly, right in front of us.

Over the past month, I’ve been spending some of my evenings at Yoga on Mars, and it has become one of the most peaceful parts of my week. After a busy day at the office, I need a little time for myself. Now that my daughter is in college, I’ve been able to dedicate more time to exploring the area and focusing on self-care.
The classes I’ve been attending are candlelight yoga sessions held in the evening. As the lights dim and the candles glow around the room, the atmosphere immediately shifts. The busyness of the day fades away and the focus turns inward.
Each class begins with something simple but powerful: setting a personal intention. It might be gratitude, patience, or simply allowing yourself an hour to breathe and be present.
Soft, meditative music plays quietly in the background while we move through gentle stretches and slow, mindful movements that engage the entire body. The instructors guide the class with calm voices and thoughtful instruction, creating an environment that feels welcoming, relaxed, and supportive for everyone in the room. What I’ve come to appreciate most is that yoga here isn’t just exercise. It’s about caring for the body, mind, and spirit all at once. The gentle movement helps loosen tight muscles, the quiet atmosphere allows your mind to settle, and by the time the class ends, there’s a sense of calm that stays with you long after you roll up your mat.
After a month of attending these classes, I’ve found myself wondering how I went so many years without yoga being part of my routine.
For those of us who live in or around Mars, it’s easy to overlook the special places right in our own community. But sometimes the most meaningful discoveries aren’t found on distant planets—they’re right here at home.
And if you’re looking for a little renewal of your own, you might just find it… right here in Mars.
