CRANBERRY TWP. — Drivers traveling Franklin Road in Cranberry Township should prepare for additional delays this week as the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) begins pavement patching on the Franklin Road Corridor Safety Improvement Project.
Patching is scheduled to begin Thursday, Aug. 6, at 9 a.m. and continue through Saturday, Aug. 8, at 7 p.m. between the intersections of Route 228 and Peters Road. During the work, motorists should expect single-lane alternating traffic controlled by flaggers. All work is weather permitting.
The patching represents another visible milestone in PennDOT’s $19.1 million Franklin Road Corridor Safety Improvement Project, a four-year effort designed to improve safety along one of Cranberry Township’s busiest north-south roadways.
The project includes shoulder widening, installation of new drainage infrastructure, additional turning lanes, edge-line rumble strips and sight-distance improvements. Construction is expected to continue through early November 2027.
The latest work follows months of construction activity that began earlier this year.
In February, PennDOT launched the first phase of the project with intermittent lane restrictions between Route 228 and Peters Road while crews began utility relocations and roadway preparation. Since then, motorists have watched construction crews relocate water and gas lines, install drainage systems and begin grading work along the corridor.
Although drivers have experienced periodic backups throughout the summer, Route 228 has remained open while work has progressed along Franklin Road.
