According to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), overnight paving is scheduled on Franklin Road (Route 3021) from June 7 through June 14 between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. Crews will be paving utility relocation trenches as part of the ongoing project. Work is weather permitting.
PennDOT also announced that Mars Road (T-722) will be closed between Jessica Drive and Franklin Road from 9 a.m. on June 17 through 3 p.m. on July 6. During the closure, crews will fully reconstruct the roadway, including the installation of new drainage infrastructure and pavement.
PennDOT has already posted advance warning signs at the Franklin Road and Mars Road intersection. A detour will be posted for motorists traveling through the area. Drivers approaching from the Franklin Road intersection should turn right onto Franklin Road, continue to Route 228, turn right onto Cranberry Springs Drive and then return to Mars Road. Motorists traveling from the Cranberry Springs Drive side should follow the route in reverse.
PennDOT cautioned that significant traffic impacts are expected throughout the project, including lane restrictions, traffic shifts and additional road closures. Drivers are encouraged to seek alternate routes when possible and monitor traffic conditions through GPS navigation systems or 511PA.
The Franklin Road Corridor Safety Improvement Project includes shoulder widening, installation of edge-line rumble strips and sight-distance improvements along Franklin Road. The work is being performed by Glenn O. Hawbaker Inc. of State College under a four-year, $19.1 million contract.
The project is expected to be completed in early November 2027.
